Erciyes University was established under the name of Kayseri University in 1978. The Faculty of Medicine, established in 1968 on Erciyes University campus as affiliated to Hacettepe University, Ankara, under the name of Kayseri Gevher Nesibe Faculty of Medicine, and Kayseri Faculty of Business Administration (today called as the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences), founded in 1977, both constituted the core of Erciyes University. Kayseri Higher Islamic Institute (today called as the Faculty of Theology), founded in 1965, and Kayseri State Academy of Architecture and Engineering (today called as the Faculty of Engineering), founded in 1977, were incorporated into the university, and the university was named as Erciyes University in 1982. The foundation of Erciyes University was laid in 1968 with the Gevher Nesibe Faculty of Medicine, which was established as affiliated to Hacettepe University.
In 1982 Faculty of Arts and Science, in 1992 Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, in 1993 Faculty of Fine Arts; in 2001 Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Communication; in 2002 Faculty of Education; in 2003 Faculty of Law and Faculty of Pharmacy; in 2005 Develi Seyrani Faculty of Agriculture, in 2013 Faculty of Tourism; in 1993 Faculty of Engineering-Architecture in Yozgat, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Faculty of Arts and Science in Yozgat; in 1997 Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in Nevsehir; were included.
Schools; Physical Education & Sports, Atatürk School of Health, Civil Aviation, Foreign Languages, Tourism and Hotel Management, Nevsehir Tourism and Hotel Management, Nevsehir Health School, and Yozgat Health School. Vocational Schools; Kayseri Vocational School, Halil Bayraktar Health Services, Safiye Cikrikcioglu Vocational School, Kocasinan Vocational School, Social Sciences, Nevsehir Vocational School, Yozgat Vocational School and Develi Vocational School. Faculties, schools and vocational schools in Erciyes University Yozgat Campus were affiliated to Yozgat Bozok University, founded in 2006; on the other hand, the ones in Nevsehir Campus to Nevsehir University, founded in 2007.
The name of Kocasinan Vocational School was altered to Mustafa Cikrikcioglu Vocational School in 2006.
Erciyes University Faculty of Arts and Science was separated as Faculty of Sciences and Faculty of Letters in 2010. Atatürk School of Health was turned into the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Bünyan Vocational School was established in 2006, Vocational School of Justice in 2010, Tomarza Vocational School in 2011 and started education.
Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics was established in 2012 and School of Civil Aviation was transferred to the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 2015. School of Applied Sciences, which was established in 2012, was turned into the Faculty of Applied Sciences and transferred to Kayseri University in 2018. School of Tourism and Hotel Management was turned into the Faculty of Tourism in 2013.
School of Physical Education and Sports was turned into the Faculty of Sports Sciences in 2018.
Pınarbaşı Vocational School was established in 2016.
The university serves with 19 Faculties, 7 Graduate Schools, 2 Vocational Schools, 1 School; 42 Research Centers, and also with the research hospital with 1350 beds. In addition to Gevher Nesibe Hospital, Cardiovascular Diseases Hospital, Organ Transplant and Dialysis Hospital, Oncology Hospital, Children’s Hospital and Bone Marrow Transplant and Stem Cell Therapy Center are also among the most important health institutions in the region.
1 Faculty and 9 Vocational Schools; Faculty of Applied Sciences, Bünyan Vocational School, Develi Hüseyin Şahin Vocational School, Mustafa Çıkrıkçıoğlu Vocational School, Pınarbaşı Vocational School, Safiye Çıkrıkçıoğlu Vocational School, Social Sciences Vocational School, Tomarza Mustafa Akıncıoğlu Vocational School, Yahyalı Vocational School, Kayseri Vocational School, which were separated from Erciyes University, were affiliated to Kayseri University in accordance with the Law on the Amendment of the Law on Higher Education and Certain Laws and Decree Laws published in the Official Gazette No. 30425 dated May 18, 2018.
Erciyes University offers degree programs to approximately 53.000 students and employs nearly 2400 academic staff.
Graduate degree programs in Erciyes University became more recognizable especially after 1984. There are almost 6.202 master degree students and nearly 2230 PhD students studying at the following graduate schools: Atatürk’s Principles and History of Turkish Revolution, Educational Sciences, Fine Arts, Gevher Nesibe Genome and Stem Cell, Health Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences.
Erciyes University has become integrated with its vicinity by offering educational, research and health services. A considerable part of infrastructure and service buildings at the university were provided by the benefactors in the city and donated to our university after their furnishings and installations were completed. Such an application has created a quite new model for our country. The university has made great progress towards becoming a center of excellence as a result of the important developments it has achieved in recent years. With these developments, ERU, by giving confidence and hope, has enabled an image called “Our University” to emerge in the society.
