ERU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun introduced the new emergency annex building affiliated to the ERU Medical Faculty Hospitals at a press conference.
Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Oktay Özkan and M. Hakan Poyrazoğlu, Secretary General Prof. Dr. İbrahim Narin, Assistant Secretaries General Prof. Dr. Afşın Alper Cerit and Dr. Oktay Musa Kayırga, Chief Physician of Hospitals Prof. Dr. İbrahim Halil Kafadar, Rector’s Advisor Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Sena Kösedağ and press members attended the publicity meeting held at the emergency annex building.
Giving information about the building, Rector Altun said: “The emergency annex building was built at a cost of 148 million. The total closed area of the building is 4,800 square meters. The construction of its basement, ground floor and first floor has been completed.”
Stating that it would be put into service as from Monday, our Rector thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Presidential Strategy and Budget President İbrahim Şenel and the senior officials in Kayseri for their contributions to the construction process.
He gave information about the 800-bed Training and Research Hospital to be built for our university. He also stated that seismic isolators would be used in the construction of the new hospital and continued as follows: “The 1st stage project of the 800-bed Erciyes University Training and Research Hospital has been approved. We will give more detailed information about this project in the coming days, but I would like to state that we are going out to tender for the construction of this project on November 13th. After the tender is made on November 13, the project will be completed within ten months.”
Pointing out that they had signed a project for a new hospital due to the increase in the existing hospital’s repair costs, Rector Altun said: “The hospitals of our university do not have any problems, but repair costs continue to increase continuously. For example, the annual repair cost reaches 70-80 million TL, especially in outpatient clinics and the main building. Thus, we need to carry out such a project to save money.”
Emphasizing that the 800-bed Training and Research Hospital to be built would cost approximately 340 million dollars, our Rector said: “We have conducted feasibility studies for the hospital to be built, such as which department needs how many beds and how many operating rooms there will be. For example, the single rooms in the current hospital are approximately 15 square meters. In this project, the area in the rooms has increased to 32.5 square meters. Hopefully, when it is built, we will have a very comfortable area.”
Following his speech, our Rector and Prof. Dr. Nurullah Günay, Head of the Emergency Department, toured the new emergency building with press members.
