Hosted by Erciyes University, Nowruz was celebrated.

ERU Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. M. Hakan Poyrazoğlu and Prof. Dr. Cevdet Kırpık, Assistant Secretaries General Prof. Dr. Afşın Alper Cerit and Dr. Oktay Musa Kayırga, Provincial Director of AFAD Rifat Genç, Provincial Director of ISKUR Ayşe Ak, Head of the International Office Prof. Dr. Mustafa Öztürk, deans of faculties, academics, and students attended the event.

Making the opening speech of the event, Prof. Dr. Cevdet Kırpık emphasized the importance of Nowruz Day. He said: “Rejoicing over the same things and feeling sorrow for the same things are fundamental conditions of being a nation. Today, while we enthusiastically celebrate Nowruz, the herald of spring, we are once again reinforcing these common feelings. While Nowruz symbolizes the awakening of nature, renewal, and revival, it also reminds us of the strong bonds of unity and solidarity within the Turkic World, extending from the past to the future.”

Head of the International Office Prof. Dr. Mustafa Öztürk said: “As Erciyes University, we organize various events. This is one of the events that we attach importance to as we have the opportunity to introduce Turkish culture to our international students. Such events allow to promote values such as peace and friendship.”

At the event where the Nowruz Fire was lit, senior officials in the city jumped over the fire.

The event continued with the presentation of awards to those who achieved success in the sack race, egg carrying and tug-of-war competitions after the forging of iron on an anvil and tapping painted eggs.
