Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar participated in the Academic Year Opening Ceremony of Erciyes University
Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, President of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE), participated in the 2024-2025 Academic Year Opening Ceremony of Erciyes University.
CoHE President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, Governor of Kayseri Gökmen Çiçek, 12th Air Transportation Main Base Commander and Garrison Commander Brigadier General Hasan Volkan Güleryüz, Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, Executive Board Members of CoHE Prof. Dr. Naci Gündoğan, Prof. Dr. Arif Bilgin, Prof. Dr. Mahmut AK and Prof. Dr. Derviş Karaboğa, ERU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, ERU Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Oktay Özkan and Prof. Dr. Cevdet Kırpık, ERU Secretary General Prof. Dr. İbrahim Narin, Assistant Secretaries General Prof. Dr. Afşın Alper Cerit and Dr. Oktay Musa Kayırga, representatives of political parties, mayors of districts, chairmen of chambers, provincial directors, benefactors, academics and students attended the ceremony held at Erciyes Cultural Center.
The ceremony started with a moment of silence and the singing of the Turkish National Anthem. The Department of Fine Arts gave a concert.
Making a speech at the ceremony, Professor Özvar stated that Erciyes University is among the 23 universities included in the Research Universities Program. He said that ERU is one of the distinguished institutions fulfilling a crucial mission in our country. He continued as follows: “Erciyes University, which has become one of the well-established higher education institutions in Türkiye and Anatolia with its almost half a century of experience, has a very exceptional position in our higher education system with its historical heritage.”
Stating that they were conducting many programs and projects actively, Professor Özvar said: “As the Council of Higher Education, we continuously encourage and support our universities to specialize and differentiate in a way to highlight their strengths as well as to improve themselves in research, projects, scientific studies, qualified academic publications, sustainability, social responsibility and other areas.”
Governor of Kayseri Gökmen Çiçek pointed out that Erciyes University contributed significantly to the city. He said: “Despite the disadvantages in recent years, Erciyes University has a trace in every leap and innovation of the city. Prominent academics also have contributed significantly. I am happy to be a governor of a city where a university is so integrated with the city.”
Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç stated that Erciyes University has a different place in the hearts with its historical background. He said: “On behalf of the people in Kayseri, I would like to thank the CoHE President for his support. Believe me, you, the students of Erciyes University, are very lucky. We do our best to help our students improve themselves.”
In his speech, our Rector Altun thanked Professor Özvar for his participation in the ceremony.
Stating that Erciyes University is a shining star of Anatolia, Rector Altun said: “As one of the important higher education institutions, Erciyes University is doing its part especially in student activities, R&D activities and social contribution processes. While carrying out these activities, our only love is our country. We do our best to produce products with added value for our country. Our sole purpose is to increase the recognition of our country, especially our city, and to contribute to all humanity.”
Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun told that they were trying to contribute to the educational development of students and continued as follows: “I would like to express that we are working diligently to ensure that our students do internship in the most prestigious organizations and complete their professional development in the best way possible.”
Following the speeches, Rector Altun presented a gift to Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar.
The ceremony ended after Professor Özvar presented plaques to the benefactors who support our university and a souvenir photo was taken.
