Assoc. Prof. Ömer Önal, a faculty member at the Department of Thoracic Surgery, held a seminar on Recent Advances in Lung Cancer Surgical Treatment at the ERU Medical Faculty Hospitals on the occasion of the Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
Faculty members, physicians and other healthcare professionals attended the seminar held at the conference hall of the hospital.

He said: “In our hospital, we have been performing closed lung surgeries successfully through a single incision for about ten years. Our main goal in lung cancer surgery is to perform lung resection without leaving any macroscopic or microscopic tumor behind, with clear surgical margins, and to complete the sampling or dissection of the lymph nodes in the relevant hemithorax.”
He also talked about the surgical methods and types applied in lung cancer surgery, gave information about the scientific studies conducted with meta-analyses and explained the advantages and disadvantages of the surgical methods applied.
